Vist to the Democrat party headquarters

Us, Bro. Paul, former Secretary General Surin Pissuwan, and Sis. Noi
One of our responsibilities as Public Affairs missionaries is to visit with members of the government to introduce them to the Church and explain the reason for its presence in Thailand, which is to serve the Thai people and to teach them of the importance of having strong families.

This particular day's visit was to the offices of the Democrat Party of Thailand, currently one of the parties in the nation that are seeking election to important offices.  Elder Taber and his wife are the Family History Specialists.  He is there to explain the Church's efforts to help the Thais access records so they can do family history.

We explained to Abhisit, the former Prime Minister of Thailand and current Democratic Party Chairman, that the Church always maintains neutrality regarding government affairs but encourages all governments to do what they can to support and strengthen families.

Elder Taber delivers his "famous" chocolate chip cookies
A custom of the Thais is to present gifts to those that allow meetings with them.  Here we are presenting boxes of oranges to Abhisit as our "thank you" for his making the time to visit with us.  He offered to help the Church in our work in any way he can because he understands that the Church has helped many Thais through many charitable projects.

Elder Taber presented Abhisit with his homemade chocolate chip cookies, made from "all imported ingredients."  He warned him to tell those he shared them with that they contain nuts, just in case someone is allergic to nuts.  Abhisit said that's a good reason for him to keep the cookies for himself and not share them!
