Maesa Elephant Reserve - Chiang Mai

You would LOVE this place - if you like elephants!  They are very smart creatures and seem to be very loving.  One even gave Gramps a big hug after the show!!  That is a look of surprise on his face - not fear!

They were so gentle with their riders!  It would have been fun to ride one but we didn't have the time to do the 1 1/2 hour trip that day.  Another time!!

They are very smart!  They have been trained to paint pictures - it was amazing to watch!  You could buy copies of their artwork - for about $100 each!!  I know it would be to help the preserve but we just didn't have that much extra money on hand and weren't sure how we could transport it home.  So, we settled on getting a photo of the picture.  They were absolutely incredible to watch.  Each elephant painted its own unique picture.  This is one of the finished paintings!!  Mountains, blue sky, trees and a field of grass in front.  Some of the other ones painted a bouquet of flowers.  Amazing!

Here are some other photos of the elephants we saw that day.  What a fun day!

These people had just finished their elephant ride!  See the elephant's treat!!!

You can tell the trainers really love their elephants!  They are probably the best cared for elephants in the country!!  This is a very popular tourist site, and they pride themselves on taking good care of their animals.

This picture is on one of our walls in the apartment, and it has always reminded me of the Manning boys playing down in the Provo River!!  You've got Spencer, the oldest, watching over his brothers.  Garrett keeping an eye on Morgan, who decided to sit down and spray the others.  And then there's Tanner and Christian playing together under Spencer's watchful eye.  Love this picture!!
