North District YSA Activity - BangPu Nature Center - May 25, 2013

Sinking into mud up to your knees in order to plant a few trees – does that sound like a fun activity on a Saturday morning??  Ask the YSA who attended the activity at BangPu on May 25, and they’ll answer with a resounding YES!!

After a fun van trip to our destination, the group enjoyed “ice-breaker” games headed by Pres. Wisan of the District Presidency.  On a more somber note, each person was asked to share their conversion story.  The spirit was strongly felt as each person shared how they came to be introduced to the gospel and what the gospel means to them now.  It was enlightening to learn that a good number of the YSA, or someone in their family, was introduced to the gospel through the English classes that the Elders teach.  Way to go, Elders!!!  Keep up the good work!

Pres. Wisan told the group “do not care about what other people think of you as long as you are doing the right thing. . . . Be a strong link in the chain for future generations.”  (To our grandchildren - please take note of this advice!  You are the future Manning generations!)

After a delightful lunch in the hall out on the pier, the group received instruction on how to plant the mangrove trees out in the mudlands.  These trees are planted and nurtured to provide erosion protection to the land and to provide a habitat for the birds that come to the area each year from Siberia.  The government is doing what it can to protect the environment in that area, and they use groups like this YSA group to help them do the work.  It was a remarkable day of service – and one filled with mud up to the knees of those participating in the planting!

The Royal Army owns this area and is working hard to improve it for future generations.
Bro. James - the YSA leader for the District.
Wonderful young man! Great leadership skills and fantastic personality!

Group photo - minus Elder Gramps, the photographer! (prior to the planting)

Listening intently to planting instructions!

And off they go!!!

Bro. Golf - a recent convert (everyone has a given name that they go by)

THIS is what we signed up to do???

Mud - everywhere!!!

Sis. Peach - such a sweetheart!  Always participating!

Hard at work planting those trees!

. . .and trying to figure out how to get unstuck!!

Evidence of a good time!

The lucky senior missionaries who got to participate that day -
as mud-free observers!
